blame the computer... - 22 Septemeber 2004

I’ve been working on and off on updating the writing Circle, having had some cool ideas and learned a couple of new html trick codes… and then, the computer CRASHED. Can you believe it? It did that to me? Again? That computer just does not like me. I mean like whenever my siblings are playing games and whatever, it’s FINE. Then when I have a big idea for working on my projects or whatever, what does it do? CRASH on me. DIES on me. Unbelievably irritating.

So, have to wait a few days (more like WEEKS) before I can get it sorted.

However, I got tired of waiting around and cannot wait to show off the new stuff I have done on the site. Especially the background… I love it because I made it, using a combination of Paint, PhotoSuite 4 and PhotoEditor. Plus the new competition I found out about- I have to put it up before the dealine goes away. And also some contributions I’ve had… like that story Caitlin… check it out, it’s from this girl all the way from America. Yay!

Of course it’s not finished. But I still uploaded what I have done. So… anyway, this is a long processed way of saying sorry about some of the mess… not all the pages have been totally done so you might get a few funny mistakes and layouts in any of the pages.

But when I get the computer fixed, I will tweak everything. Finish all the stuff!

I’ve started uni now, my second year. It’s gonna be soooo hard, urgh. So I might have to work on squeezing my time to fit in with working on the Writing Circle. But, as always, keep your contributions coming!

One more thing… I’m kinda behind on putting up all the creative writing stuff the kids at Summer School did. It will be put up eventually though!

Ciao for now.

latest updates of my sites - 27 August 2004

So yet again, I fall behind on keeping this blog updated and interesting. Hmmm...

Anyway, this entry is to say that I have finally, after a long time (say a few months), I have finally updated both the Writing Circle and my personal site too.

What I have been planning recently, or rather thinking about (not yet got any plans set out), revamping the whole Writing Circle website. Except my creative juices have kind of run out, so I don't have any ideas on how to change it and give the site a new look. I think the colours are alright. Just need to jazz up the layout a bit for each sections.

So, like if any helpful readers have any suggestions, please feel free to let me know: tag me, email me to sulthana@nypo.net, or leave a message in the Writers' Circle section of the NYPO discussion board.

One more thing. I will do something about this blog, to make it a bit more interesting. How about having a creative writing exercise or idea at the end of each entry, to give people ideas to get started on their own creative writing? If you do the exercise, let me know. Submit your example in the discussion board or post it to me. If it's really good, I'll put it up in the Writing Circle as well, once I've made a section.

Exercise 1:
Write about what you think a day in your life in the year 2020 will be like.

Summer School- Week 2 - 11 August 2004

Week 2 was at a different centre, me teaching 11-14 year old creative writing.

They were really quiet during the first two days, the kids. So quiet that I had to tell them it was okay to talk, this wasn’t like proper school. By the third day, they were behaving like they’d been together forever, poking and picking on each other. It wasn’t a full class, but a good number turned up: 8 out of the 11 signed up on the register. Two of them were a brother and sister… and when siblings get together, things don’t stay nice for long…

...to be continued.

Summer School- Week 1 - 9 August 2004

The first week I was covering for Ola on a web designing course for 11 to 14 year olds. There was a large turn out, not surprising I suppose for the first week. It could have been worse. Hot, so hot, the summer days. The windows barely open and we had to close the blinds so that the penetrating sunlight could not come in with its heat. But the kids were really cool, even if they were a handful sometimes. Lucky that I had Henriette and MAhruba to help me out as my assistants!

All the kids had a different range of abilities, including two who hardly spoke much English, which made me wonder if they understood my instructions at all! But they did seem to understand enough to learn the stuff they were being taught, and maybe I owe all the credit to Mahruba and Henriette’s patience for that! Then there was one boy who already knew how to design websites with HTML, which was what I was teaching. There’s always one in the class who seems to know more than your class caters for. Fortunately, he wasn’t bored because the stuff we covered about NYPO was new to him and even with the web designing; I managed to teach new codes he didn’t know already.

Generally it went well... but I was totally tired out by the end of the week and couldn't wait for the weekend!
